Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-05-14
AP Field Guide (the "Service") is a free hobby project that helps WiFi engineers identify wireless access points from photos. By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. The Service
The Service uses AI-assisted image matching to suggest the likely make and model of a wireless access point from a photo. Identifications are best-effort suggestions, not guaranteed facts. Do not rely on them for safety-critical, contractual, or professional decisions without independent verification.
2. Accounts
- You may use the Service anonymously to identify an access point, but contributing — logging a sighting, adding to your Field Journal, or appearing on the leaderboard — requires a free account.
- You are responsible for activity under your account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
- You can delete your account at any time from within the app. See the Privacy Policy for what that removes.
3. Content you submit
- You keep ownership of photos you upload.
- By uploading a photo while signed in, you grant the Service a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, process, display, and use it to operate and improve the Service — including adding it to the reference catalog used to identify access points for other users. Every signed-in sighting is added to an admin review queue by default; an admin approves or rejects each candidate before it becomes a public reference image.
- Approved reference images appear in the public catalog without contributor attribution — your account identity is not shown alongside catalog photos.
- You confirm you have the right to upload each photo and that it does not infringe anyone's rights or contain unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate content.
- Reference images that have been approved into the catalog may remain part of the Service even after you delete your account, because other users' identifications depend on them. If you want a specific approved photo of yours removed, email the address in the Privacy Policy and we'll evaluate the request.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload unlawful, harmful, infringing, or sexually explicit content.
- Attempt to break, overload, scrape, or abuse the Service or its underlying infrastructure.
- Access the Service's APIs or Cloud Functions other than through the official app.
- Use the Service to violate anyone's privacy or any applicable law.
The Service applies rate limits and other protections. We may suspend or remove accounts or content that violate these Terms.
5. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. AI-generated identifications and field-guide content may be incomplete or wrong.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or any loss arising from your use of — or inability to use — the Service. The Service is free; the operator's total liability for any claim is limited to USD $0.
7. Service changes and availability
This is a hobby project. Features may change, and the Service may be modified, paused, or discontinued at any time without notice. We don't guarantee that data will be retained indefinitely.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when the Service changes. Material changes will be announced on the home screen. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
